With 300,878 million barrels of proven reserves, Venezuela has the largest amount of proven oil reserves in the world. The country's oil is a relatively new discovery. Previously, Saudi Arabia had always held the number one position. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is an emergency fuel storage of petroleum maintained underground in Louisiana and Texas by the United States Department of Energy (DOE). It is the largest emergency supply in the world, with the capacity to hold up to 727 million barrels (115,600,000 m 3). U.S. Crude Oil Reserves - 110 Year Historical Chart. The individual state volumes are included in the U.S. Total volume. The volumes in the table above are crude oil ONLY (aka Black Oil), excluding lease condensate. The production estimates in this table are based on data reported on Form EIA-23L, "Annual Survey of Domestic Oil and Gas Reserves." The United States of America is the top country by crude oil reserves in the world. As of October 2019, crude oil reserves in the United States of America was 12,655 thousand barrels per day. The top 5 countries also includes Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Canada. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve is a government-owned stash of oil that's stored in four salt caverns in the Gulf Coast region. The reserve has a capacity of 727 million barrels (though there are plans to increase storage by expanding the existing caverns and building additional storage sites). By any measure, America's rapid expansion to a record 12 million barrels of oil output a day has been a global game-changer. By any measure, America's rapid expansion to a record 12 million

The 2018 reserves represent the largest US proven reserves since 1972. The Energy Information Administration estimates US undiscovered, technically recoverable oil resources to be an additional 198 billion barrels. The U.S. holds more oil reserves than anyone else in the world, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Venezuela. That conclusion comes from a new independent estimate from Rystad Energy, a Norwegian consultancy. Rystad estimates that the U.S. holds 264 billion barrels of oil, more than half of which is located in shale. Alaska saw the fourth-largest net increase of crude oil and lease condensate proved reserves of all states in 2017—442 million barrels (28% increase). The states of Utah and Kansas experienced the largest net declines in proved reserves in 2017, ( drops of 79 million barrels and 65 million barrels, respectively). In its latest annual report of world recoverable oil resources, Rystad Energy finds that the United States currently holds 293 billion barrels of recoverable oil resources. This is 20 billion barrels more than Saudi Arabia and almost 100 billion barrels more than Russia.
